Swiggy starts food delivery service on water

Online food and grocery delivery application Swiggy has now established its empire on water also. The company has started its services from Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir. Swiggy said that the company has expanded its services to deliver food to houseboats on Srinagar's iconic Dal Lake. The company's delivery partners will use the city's famous Shikara boats to reach these floating houseboats. Swiggy said the company has collaborated with Shikara operators to ensure delivery at tourist attractions.

According to a press release from the company, these operators are also compensated for extended delivery times.

Siddharth Bhaku, National Head of Business, Swiggy Food, said, "'Swiggy Houseboat Delivery' is a testament to the company's mission to deliver services regardless of the consumer's location." Swiggy started operations in Srinagar in 2022. More than 300 restaurants of Srinagar are included on the company's platform.

According to media reports, Swiggy is also working with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to deliver food to people on trains in four cities like Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada. The company is planning to bring this service to more than 59 railway stations in the next six months, which will provide more food options to the travelers.

IRCTC boss Sanjay Kumar Jain said that they already offer food delivery at around 350 major stations. Where trains stop for a short while, which makes it easier to deliver food. To do this they work with 17 different companies including Zomato. Till now he has earned Rs 30 crore by selling food to 60,000 passengers every day without any complaint.

Currently, Swiggy will start by providing its service at four railway stations. This is the second time that IRCTC has partnered with a food delivery service company. Last year, IRCTC had worked with Zomato to deliver pre-ordered food at stations in New Delhi, Prayagraj, Kanpur, Lucknow and Varanasi.
